What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and how does it work?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle yet effective hands-on therapy. It works by unblocking restrictions in the natural flow of the cerebral spinal fluid, allowing the body to gently release & heal any physical & emotional trauma. It strengthens the nervous system and returns balance and motility to the entire body.

The foundation of trauma work is, above all, safety. Supporting, listening, allowing and following the innate wisdom of the body to express itself, allows for the release of deep-seated trauma. It supports in re-connecting with and expressing who we are at depths we are often unaware of.

Through correcting cranial imbalance, we enhance the function of the nervous system by bringing it into a parasympathetic state, thus reducing stress and allowing for healing to take place. Often, a pleasant after effect of craniosacral work is having a sense of greater calmness, clarity and wellbeing.

What can you expect during a Craniosacral treatment?

You will be asked to lay down on a massage table fully clothed. Relaxing & soothing music will be playing in the background. I will place my hands, very gently, on various places of your body (mostly this will be on the head, face, spine and sacrum). I will gently palpate and listen to your body’s cranial rhythm, feeling for any restrictions and facilitate any healing that needs to take place by ‘holding space’ for you.

What does ‘holding space’ actually mean?

Holding space is the art of being present with others. By holding space for someone, we are facilitating, and guiding by offering gentle, non-judgemental & unconditional support, and following their lead on whatever journey they’re on, without an intention to fix or change, but allowing the outcome to “just be.”

When holding space during a craniosacral treatment, we are sensing and ‘listening’ to the client’s craniosacral pulse and tidal rhythms and holding space for those rhythms to move into a deep sense of inner stillness and balance.

The biodynamic approach is a whole-body approach that involves helping clients re-establish their own balanced rhythm. This allows the body’s own regenerative powers to heal and support on-going maintenance of health. Healing comes from within the client, rather than from the practitioner. BCST allows space and stillness for issues to simply be and have room to reorganize and shift naturally.
